a fost creata initial pentru Bucharest-guide.ro, un ghid al Bucurestiului in care puteti gasi mai multe obiective turistice sau de alta natura: hoteluri, muzee, restaurante, baruri si altele. De asemenea le puteti vizualiza si pe aceasta harta a Bucurestiului.

Ce face harta:

* 3 nivele de zoom, din care ultimile doua afiseaza si obiectivele
* cautare de obiectiv dupa nume, strada sau zona
* afisare zona pe harta
* cautarea unei strazi pe Harta Bucuresti
* afisarea unui singur tip de obiectiv (ex: numai restaurante, hoteluri, etc)
* afisarea detaliilor unui obiectiv printr-un click ce deschide un pop-up

Harta se bazeaza pe tehnologia Ajax & DOM.

The ideea of the map application was inspired from Google maps, which is a hot subject on the web lately.

Bucharest map

The map is actually a map of only one city, namely Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The map was first created for Bucharest-Guide.ro, a travel guide of Bucharest. Inside this travel guide you can find several travel objectives, hotels, museums and other stuff like that. You can find all these objectives on this map.

Features of the map:

* 3 zoom levels, of which only the last 2 will show you the objectives
* search objectives by name, type, street, zone
* see a zone on the map
* search for a street
* show only one type of objective (ie: hotels, restaurants, etc.)
* details of each objective pop up on click

Technology

With all the frenzy going on since the start of the year on the Ajax subject, I couldn't say I am not also excited by the possibilities of this old technology with a new name. The world has burst after the birth of the Ajax name with lots of examples of usages of Ajax. Just go ahead and search for ajax or xmlhttprequest on Google or other search engine. There's a bunch of good links related to Ajax over at fiftyfoureleven, so go check that out sometime.

Before this technology was even named as such, there has been some open-source tools to help developers pursue their web building journey with greater ease. One such tool is JPSpan. It's easy to use, it helps to transparently access your PHP classes from a web page without much fuss.

Aside from the Ajax, the other most important part was the DOM handling, node creations, node removals, and of course the drag part. For the drag method, I have used yp's DOM-Drag, which is a great piece of code; hats off to Aaron.
